CLEFT LIP

WHAT IS IT?
The gap in lips present at birth (by-birth problem) is due to the non-union of lip segments.

CORRECTION
Surgical approximation of the separated lip segments and muscles and realigning the deviated nasal septum.
Usually done after 4 months of age of the baby.

TMJ ANKYLOSIS

WHAT IS IT?
It is the inability to open the mouth due to the fusion of jaw joint bones.
The condition can occur from birth (by-birth problem) or after trauma to the joint.

CORRECTION
Relieving the fusion of the joint by removing the extra bone and shaping the joint space like normal.
Shaping the lower jaw by a procedure accelerates bone growth to make the lower jaw symmetrical and of standard size and shape.

CLEFT PALATE

WHAT IS IT?
The inability of palatal shelves to approximate at fuse during fetal development results in an open palate of birth (by-birth problem).

CORRECTION
Palatoplasty is performed at or after 10 months of age baby.
The hard and soft palatal cleft is treated in single or multi-staged sittings.
Single-stage correction is performed in case of isolated hard and soft palate cleft.

DISTRACTION OSTEOGENESIS

WHAT IS IT?
It is the procedure to aid the growth of the lower jaw (mandible) in case of severe retrusion.

CORRECTION
It is done using a device known as distractors which are fixed in bone, and the growth is achieved slowly in the desired direction depending on the deficit to correct this by-birth problem.

TONGUE LIP ADHESION

WHAT IS IT?
It is surgically tethering the tongue forward to the lower lip.
Done to relieve always obstruction caused by glossoptosis (tongue fall back ) or retrognathia (small lower jaw),
They have primarily been seen in syndromic babies (Pierre Robin syndrome).

CORRECTION
A relatively safe and effective procedure to maintain a patent airway
Performed by surgeons trained and with expertise in pediatric face surgeries to correct this by-birth problem.

PEDIATRIC FACIAL FRACTURES

WHAT IS IT?
Accidents and falls cause trauma to children’s faces’ soft tissues and bones.

TREATMENT
Soft tissue trauma
Minor abrasions can be healed with antiseptic dressings as needed.
Suturing repairs minor and significant tears in skin and muscles.
A combination of surgical and non-surgical procedures like skin grafting and implants reconstruct Major tissue loss (by-birth problem).

FACIAL FRACTURES
Minor stable fractures can be treated by securing the segments and regular visits to the surgeon to assess the healing.
Displaced fractures must be reduced and fixed using plates and screws to correct this by-birth problem.

CLEFT RHINOPLASTY

WHAT IS IT?
It is a nasal deformity resulting from inadequate growth of nasal cartilage because of unilateral or bilateral cleft lip (by-birth problem).

CORRECTION
As per the need, open rhinoplasty and other various techniques are performed to correct deficient tissue and cartilage of the nose, usually done after 16 years of age.
